2026 World Cup: Three Players See Red As Mexico Eased Past South Africa In A Comfortable 2-0 Win

Mexico and South Africa locked horn today 11th June 2026 as the 2026 FIFA World Cup Co-hosted by Mexico, USA and Canada kicked off. This is the second ever epic clash between the two countries in a competitive game.

The first-ever 48-team World Cup
sparked excitement amongst football fans around the world, with football enthusiasts full of expectations and predictions.

The opening match between Mexico and South Africa at the Mexican City Stadium kicked off with such an intensity that paid off at the 9th minute when Julian Quinones saw the back of the net to give Mexico a 1-0 lead, which remained the score at halftime.

Later on in the 67th minute, Raul Jimenez scored the second goal being his first career World Cup goal – a clinical header by a cross assist from Roberto Alvarado

However, the fluidity of the game was almost marred by violent tackles which made 3 players see red card in the opening match.

Sithole and Zwane of South Africa were given straight red cards for violent tackles, while the third red card was shown to a Mexican player when César Montes brought down Khuliso Mudau just outside the area in a goal-bound counter attack.

The game ended 2-0 in favour of Mexico in a pulsating opener. Croatia takes on South Korea in the second match of the mundial by 3:00 am Nigerian time on Friday 12th June 2026.
