The Orshi family of Benue State has been thrown into mourning following the death of Pastor Peter Tyoakaa Orshi, who passed away at the age of 60 after a brief illness.
Orshi died on Thursday, September 24, 2026, leaving behind his wife, six children, relatives, friends and members of his community to mourn the loss of a man the family described as loving, cherished and deeply committed to those around him.
In a statement announcing his death, Barrister David Orshi said the deceased was a beloved husband, father, uncle and brother whose presence would be greatly missed by his family, friends and community.
The deceased was a member of the family of Orchiviri Dr. James Akperan Orshi, the third Tor Tiv, from Mbatiev, Mbapen, Tombu in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nancy Nguveren Orshi, a Deputy Director with Radio Benue, their six children, as well as other relatives, in-laws and loved ones.
Three-Day Funeral Programme
As the family prepares to lay their patriarch to rest, a series of funeral activities has been scheduled to celebrate his life and bid him a final farewell.
The programme will begin on Wednesday, October 7, with a Service of Songs at the Household of Faith International Christian Centre, opposite Pardopas Secondary School, Makurdi. The service will commence at 5:00 p.m.
On Thursday, October 8, the body will leave Bishop Murray Medical Centre, Makurdi, at 1:00 p.m., en route to Tse-Kur Baka, where another wake will be held.
The final rites will take place on Friday, October 9, with a church service and final burial scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m.
The Orshi family has called on relatives, friends, colleagues, associates and well-wishers to join them in mourning the deceased and celebrating the life he lived.
The family also expressed appreciation to all those who have offered prayers, love and support since his death.
As the family comes to terms with the loss, Pastor Orshi’s loved ones are expected to gather in the coming days to remember a husband, father, brother, uncle and community member whose life touched those around him.
