The Delta State Judiciary has announced its 2026 Annual Vacation, with court activities across the State scheduled to go on vacation from Monday, August 3 to Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
The announcement was contained in a public notice issued by the Chief Registrar of the Delta State High Court of Justice, Mrs Eloho Okodiya-Onoriose, dated July 23, 2026, with reference number DSHCJ/CR/656/Vol. 1/709.
According to the notice, while the Annual Vacation lasts, the Honourable Chief Judge of Delta State, Hon. Justice Tessy Diai, has appointed Vacation Judges to attend to urgent cases, matters and applications requiring judicial attention during the period.
The Judiciary has designated three locations as Vacation Court centres to cater for the three senatorial districts of the State.
The notice stated that Asaba would serve as the Vacation Court centre for Delta North Senatorial District, while Warri would serve Delta South, with Effurun designated for Delta Central Senatorial District.
E-Filing Mandatory in Six Judicial Divisions
The Delta State Judiciary further directed legal practitioners, litigants and court staff to adhere strictly to the prescribed procedures for filing matters during the vacation.
For Judicial Divisions that are already operational on the NCMS/E-Filing Platform, including Asaba, Warri, Effurun, Kwale, Ogwashi-Uku and Ibusa, all vacation applications are to be filed exclusively through the electronic filing platform.
The notice explained that once applications and accompanying documents are approved, they would be transmitted electronically to the relevant Vacation Court Registry for necessary action.
However, Judicial Divisions that have not yet commenced operations on the e-filing platform will continue with the manual filing procedure.
Registrars in such divisions have been directed to promptly transmit physical case files to the appropriate Vacation Court Registries to ensure that Vacation Judges can act on urgent applications without unnecessary delay.
Under the arrangement, matters from Delta North are to be transmitted to the Asaba Vacation Court Registry, those from Delta South to Warri, while matters originating from Delta Central are to be transmitted to the Effurun Vacation Court Registry.
The Chief Registrar urged lawyers, litigants, court staff and members of the public to take note of the arrangements and ensure strict compliance with the applicable filing procedures throughout the 2026 Annual Vacation.
The development is expected to ensure that although the regular court calendar is on vacation, urgent judicial matters requiring immediate attention will continue to receive necessary consideration across the three senatorial districts.
