In a forward-looking move to drive digital transformation and strengthen communication strategies within university governance, Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) hosted a dynamic Staff Capacity Building Workshop themed “Building Digital Information Ecosystems for Effective University Management and Public Relations” on April 15, 2025. The event, held at the Senate Building, was organised by the Information, Communication and Protocol (ICP) Unit in collaboration with Infinix Tech Cloud and ENLUKA Consultancy.

The workshop was designed to empower staff with essential skills and tools to thrive in the evolving digital information landscape, while enhancing strategic communication and public relations efforts. He emphasized that public relations extends beyond traditional media engagements, playing a pivotal role in stakeholder trust, institutional governance, and digital presence.

“Public relations is not just about media interviews or press releases,” Mr. Osakwe noted. “It’s embedded in our daily actions, our digital footprints, and the integrity of our information systems. Universities must adopt tools that support data-driven decision-making and transparent communication.”

Supervising an Ultra-Modern Police Station Was Challenging but Fulfilling – CSP Temi Agbede-Zuokumor

By Abel Johngold Orheruata

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ugborikoko Division in Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State, CSP Omosetemi Agbede-Zuokumor, has described the task of overseeing the construction of a new ultra-modern police station as demanding, yet deeply rewarding.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony of the project held on Friday, April 11, 2024, CSP Zuokumor attributed the project’s success to the unwavering support of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd and her own commitment to ensuring a thorough execution.

Reflecting on the journey, she noted, “It was a challenging period, but I remained focused and determined to see it through.” She expressed profound gratitude to the management of Tantita, especially its Chairman, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo), and the company’s Managing Director, High Chief (Engr.) Kestin Ebimorbowei Pondi, for their belief in her and their generous support.

In her words:
“It is with immense pride and gratitude that I stand before you today as the 10th Divisional Police Officer of Ugborikoko Division. This moment marks a significant milestone not only for our division but also for the entire Nigeria Police Force and the community we serve.”

CSP Zuokumor recalled that upon assuming office on June 10, 2024, she was met with a deteriorating structure that was unbefitting of the officers who serve there. Recognizing the urgent need for a transformation, she reached out to her longtime friend and brother-in-law, the MD of Tantita Security Services, who gave his full backing to the vision of a modern, functional station.

“Today, we celebrate the culmination of seven months of tireless effort. From the foundation laid on July 10, 2024, to this remarkable edifice we see today, the journey has been both tough and inspiring.”

She emphasized that the new station is more than just a building—it is a symbol of enhanced safety and service delivery. The station includes a fully furnished gatehouse housing the SIB, surveillance, and station guard offices, a renovated divisional hall, two Hilux patrol vehicles, concrete-stamped flooring, a 30 kVA inverter, and a 30 kVA Mikano generator.

Additional facilities include modern security cameras with ultra-clear monitors, a fully equipped interrogation room compliant with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, and a tactical conference room to support more efficient operations.

“With these state-of-the-art installations, our officers are better equipped to serve Uvwie and its environs with increased professionalism and efficiency,” she said.

CSP Zuokumor commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for his forward-thinking leadership, and the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, for entrusting her with the leadership of the Ugborikoko Division and providing steadfast encouragement throughout the project.

She also paid glowing tribute to Tantita Security Services, describing the MD, Chief Kestin Pondi, as “a visionary leader who transforms ideas into lasting legacies.”

Her appreciation extended to her officers and men of the division, acknowledging their patience, sacrifice, and contributions during the construction phase. “Your resilience and cooperation made this a success.”

CSP Zuokumor used the occasion to unveil a new initiative, the Security Education Advocates Campaign, developed in partnership with notable Nigerians including Amb. Pastor Edewor Egedegbe (Value Rebirth and Empowerment Initiative) and Amb. (Dr) Mrs. Onyi Ikemefuna (Sharmar Educational Foundation).

Launched on January 13, 2025, at Delta Career College, the campaign has already reached several schools in Warri South, Okpe, and Uvwie LGAs. Its core mission is to educate and reorient young people, encouraging them to resist crime and drug abuse.

“The initiative aims to become part of the national educational curriculum, teaching children to recognize and report crime, as well as the importance of making the right choices early in life,” she explained. “We are proposing its adoption at the federal level as a strategic solution to combat growing insecurity in Nigeria.”

In conclusion, CSP Zuokumor expressed heartfelt gratitude to her husband, ACP Kevin Zuokumor, PSC, for his constant guidance and technical input throughout the construction.

“This station is more than a physical structure; it is a beacon of hope and security for our people. Let us all continue to uphold the values of integrity, professionalism, and service that define the Nigeria Police Force,” she said.

“Thank you for your attention, and may God bless us all as we embark on this new chapter for the Ugborikoko Division.”

Youth Unemployment Linked to Rising Crime Rates – Rights Group

By Abel Johngold Orheruata, MNIPR

A human rights organization, Initiative for Social Rights Concern and Advancement (ISRCA), has urged governments at all levels to address youth unemployment by providing skill acquisition programs and establishing industries, particularly for graduates. The group insists that economic empowerment is the most effective way to curb crime rates in the country.

ISRCA made this call during a sensitization rally aimed at discouraging young people from engaging in criminal activities and encouraging them to pursue meaningful livelihoods.

Speaking at the rally on Wednesday in Warri, ISRCA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Amb. Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, expressed concern over the rising cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, and other social vices. He attributed these crimes largely to the lack of job opportunities, particularly for graduates.

“Universities in Nigeria continue to produce thousands of graduates yearly, yet job opportunities remain scarce. We have over two million students gaining admission into Nigerian universities and more than six hundred thousand graduates annually—where are the jobs for them?” Agberen questioned.

He criticized the government’s empowerment programs, stating that they often fail to reach those in need, instead serving as political patronage for party loyalists. He urged young people not to view crime as an escape from hardship but to engage in productive ventures that will earn them a dignified livelihood.

ISRCA, which has been in existence for three years, has committed itself to organizing symposiums, creating awareness, and working with relevant agencies to push the government to address societal challenges.

Agberen also emphasized the role of parents in shaping their children’s values, calling for a collective effort from families, government, and society to instill discipline and moral values in young people.

“The government, parents, and society all have a role to play. We need to work together to guide our children toward becoming responsible members of society,” he said.

Supporting this stance, ISRCA’s National Secretary, Comrade Monday Aberu, stressed that the alarming crime rate necessitated the rally, calling for stronger collaboration with the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies.

Similarly, the group’s National Treasurer, Comrade Onotu Solomon, expressed optimism that within the next three years, ISRCA would reach every corner of society with its message, working alongside law enforcement agencies to promote crime-free communities.

On gender-specific concerns, the National Director of ISRCA’s Orientation Bureau, Comrade Mrs. Joan Eseoghene Onoruerome, advised mothers to closely monitor their children’s activities and instill strong moral values. She particularly encouraged the girl-child to avoid criminal tendencies and strive to become responsible members of society.

The rally featured public address campaigns targeting motorists, one-on-one outreach to passersby, and the distribution of flyers to residents, all aimed at spreading awareness and fostering a crime-free society.

House Set Ablaze, Several Injured in Delta Community Amid Ward Delineation Dispute

By Abel Johngold, MNIPR

A late-night attack on Sunday in Iyara Community, located in the heart of Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State, has left a house razed and several people injured. The attack was reportedly carried out by unidentified armed youths.

Front view of the building burnt during the invasion by Unknown youths to Iyara community in Warri South Council area of Dektq state.

Sources from the community stated that the assailants, armed with guns, cutlasses, and other dangerous weapons, stormed the area at about 10:47 PM, firing shots into the air to disperse residents. In the ensuing chaos, some individuals sustained severe injuries.

Eyewitnesses recounted how women and children fled in terror as the attackers freely brandished their weapons. Bullet-riddled walls and damaged commercial tricycles were seen at the scene of the assault, further highlighting the scale of destruction.

While the exact motive for the attack remains uncertain, many residents speculate that it could be linked to the recent ward delineation exercise announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Warri South. A reliable source revealed that similar attacks had occurred in nearby areas two days earlier, allegedly as a demonstration of grievances over the INEC exercise, following a Supreme Court judgment on the matter.

Warri South Local Government Chairman, Comrade Isaac Agbateyinro, confirmed the incident but stated that the perpetrators were yet to be identified. “Upon receiving reports of the attack, I immediately mobilized security forces to restore order. As we speak, adequate security has been deployed, and peace has returned to the area,” he assured.

Chief Onoriode Okoh, a former youth leader and stakeholder in Iyara Community, expressed shock over the attack. He condemned the destruction of property and the injuries inflicted on innocent residents. Urging against ethnic sentiments, he emphasized that the Urhobos, Itsekiris, and Ijaws have coexisted peacefully for years through intermarriages and communal ties.

He advised against retaliation, urging youths to allow law enforcement agencies to investigate and apprehend the culprits. “If this attack is indeed linked to ward delineation, grievances should be directed to INEC rather than disrupting the peace of our community,” he added.

Legal practitioner Chief Robinson Ariyo also weighed in on the controversial ward delineation process. He criticized the manner in which the exercise was conducted, describing it as flawed and in violation of constitutional provisions. Citing legal irregularities, he argued that INEC proceeded despite an existing court appeal and a Motion on Notice seeking to halt the exercise.

“To ignore an error is to encourage intellectual dishonesty. INEC was fully aware of the pending legal actions but chose to proceed regardless,” Ariyo stated, calling for a review of the delineation process to ensure fairness and compliance with legal frameworks.

Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified efforts to investigate the attack and bring those responsible to justice. Residents remain hopeful that authorities will act swiftly to prevent further violence and restore confidence in the electoral process.

Akpoveta Calls for Greater Investment in Maternal and Child Health on World Health Day

Dr. Isaac Akpoveta

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Health Day under the theme “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” the Director-General of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC), Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, has called for urgent and sustained action to reduce preventable maternal and child deaths.

Speaking in an interview to mark the occasion, Dr. Akpoveta underscored the critical need for governments and global health institutions to prioritize maternal and newborn health in both policy and practice.

Dr. Isaac Akpoveta

Citing alarming global statistics, he noted that nearly 300,000 women die each year from pregnancy or childbirth-related complications, while over two million babies do not survive their first month of life, with another two million stillborn.

“These tragic outcomes are largely preventable with timely and quality healthcare interventions,” Dr. Akpoveta stated. He stressed the importance of comprehensive maternal care, not just during labor and delivery but throughout pregnancy and postpartum. He also highlighted the need for a well-equipped health system capable of handling obstetric emergencies and providing accessible family planning services.

Dr. Isaac Akpoveta

Reaffirming Delta State’s commitment to reversing these trends, Dr. Akpoveta revealed that under the MORE Agenda, the state government has allocated ₦1.6 billion to support maternal and child health programs. This funding ensures that all pregnant women and children under five, both residents and indigenes, have unrestricted access to quality healthcare services.

He emphasized the Commission’s dedication to building a stronger, more inclusive healthcare system that supports women and families at every stage of life—before, during, and after childbirth.

As World Health Day shines a global spotlight on health equity and wellness, Dr. Akpoveta called on stakeholders at all levels to take decisive, collaborative action to secure healthier beginnings and brighter futures for mothers and children.

Seadogs Commemorate World Health Day with Environmental Cleanup and Blood Donation in Asaba

By Abel Johngold, MNIPR

In a commendable demonstration of community service, the Vito Corsica Deck (Aniocha/Oshimili and Ika Federal Constituency Chapter) of the National Association of Seadogs (NAS), widely known as the Pyrates Confraternity, marked World Health Day with a dual initiative focused on environmental cleanliness and lifesaving blood donation in Asaba.

Under the leadership of their Chapter Cap’n, Comrade Michael Chukwuma Nwaidei, the Seadogs undertook a comprehensive cleanup of roads across Asaba, clearing drains and promoting a healthier environment for residents. Following this exercise, they organized a voluntary blood donation drive, encouraging members and the public to contribute to a cause aimed at supporting neonates and indigent pregnant women in urgent need of transfusions.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Cap’n Nwaidei noted that this year’s World Health Day holds particular importance amid Nigeria’s ongoing struggle to reduce preventable maternal and child mortality rates.

“The solutions are well known; what we lack is the collective will and decisive action,” he stated. “The National Association of Seadogs remains committed to advocating policies that save lives. Every mother deserves a safe pregnancy, and every child a healthy future.”

Reinforcing this message, Comrade Dr. Davidson Akilaya, the 2nd Mate of Vito Corsica Deck, underscored the urgency of addressing Nigeria’s high maternal and neonatal mortality rates. He emphasized that blood donation is a crucial intervention that can significantly lower infant mortality within the first month of life.

“We have observed that many newborns do not survive their first month due to a lack of fresh blood. Through this initiative, we are bridging the gap, ensuring neonates and indigent mothers have access to the blood they need,” Akilaya stated.

The blood donation drive, conducted in collaboration with medical personnel from the Federal Medical Center Asaba, aimed to collect at least 20 pints of blood. However, according to NAS medical team leader Dr. Joseph Ejebe, a Radiologist resident at Asaba Specialist Hospital, the enthusiastic turnout suggested that the target might be surpassed.

“This initiative aligns seamlessly with the National Association of Seadogs’ dedication to humanitarian ideals,” Dr. Ejebe remarked. “We take pride in being part of a movement that prioritizes health and well-being, ensuring those in critical need receive essential support.”

Beyond the blood donation drive, the Pyrates Confraternity also took the opportunity to educate Asaba residents on the importance of environmental cleanliness and healthy living.

“With the rainy season approaching, maintaining clean drains is essential to preventing flooding and the spread of diseases,” Akilaya added. “A clean environment contributes to overall community health, reinforcing the message that good health begins with cleanliness.”

Dr. Akilaya extended his gratitude to all participants, particularly the blood donors, for their generosity and commitment to saving lives.

As World Health Day 2025 is observed globally under the theme “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” the National Association of Seadogs’ efforts in Asaba exemplify grassroots action that drives meaningful change. Their dedication to saving lives and promoting a healthier society underscores the profound impact of community-driven initiatives in building a brighter and healthier future for all.

PRESS RELEASE: PEPIN hails Tinubu’s Economic Recovery Policies; Passes Vote of Confidence on Mr. President and Delta APC National Leader, Omo-Agege

By Wilbet Ijeoma

Barely two years of governance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Peculiar Patriot Initiative of Nigeria (PEPIN) through its National President coordinating Delta State, Hon. (Mrs.) Felicia Awani Akande, joined host of other progressive personalities, entities and groups to drum support for Mr. President on his interventions, policies and reforms towards economic recovery, growth and development of Nigeria.

In particular is a warm appreciation to Mr. President for his gracious appointments of some of our sons to highly placed leadership positions like Hon. Chucks Erhire as Executive Director of Engineering Services, Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, and Mr. Austin Avuru as non Executive Director of the newly constituted NNPC Board. This wouldn’t have been possible without the fervency and effective presentation of our Delta State APC National Leader, the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

In a unanimous decision by the National President and State Executives of PEPIN, a vote of confidence was passed on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as his policies and reforms, which were initially like bitter pills necessary for the healing of Nigeria, have started paying off, and also on Delta State APC National Leader, His Excellency, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, for unifying and leading the party to victory in Delta State come 2027.

In another development, PEPIN National President, Hon. Akande commended Mr. President for the timeous intervention on the crisis that has ravaged Rivers State recently. Recall that on the 18th day of March 2025 in a nationwide broadcast, Mr. President made a rather difficult but necessary declaration of state of emergency in Rivers State, installing emergency rule by a Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas (Rtd), who will be standing in for the embattled and suspended Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Odu together with all elected members of Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.

However, this declaration by Mr. President was greeted by knocks and criticism especially from the opposition camps in utter display of ignorance of the constitutional provisions empowering the President to take such drastic measure. “We are aware that President Tinubu has acted within the confines of the law;” Hon. Akande enthused, as she confirmed that Mr. President cited Section 305 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, which he invoked.

Speaking further with her Media Directorate led by Comrade Azuka Odanike, the PEPIN National President coordinating Delta State affirmed that Mr. President cannot afford to remain aloof while the roof of his house is on fire, adding that Mr. President cannot afford to watch any part of the Federal Republic of Nigeria degenerate to an ungovernable enclave which was almost becoming the case of Rivers State. Therefore, it became necessary for a declaration of emergency rule in the crisis-torn region for a period of six months to usher tranquility and an enabling atmosphere to resolve the lingering crisis without prejudice to democracy.

The reward for every good work is more work. By this maxim, the PEPIN family, Delta State led by its National President, Hon. (Mrs.) Felicia Awani Akande wishes to drum full support and pull its weight behind our President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Delta State APC National Leader, His Excellency, Senator Ovie Omo Agege, while expressing confidence of better days ahead for Deltans in particular and Nigerians in general, in view of 2027 general elections.

Tinubu @73: PEPIN felicitate with Mr President on his 73rd Birthday Anniversary

By Comrade Wilbet Ijeoma

The Peculiar Patriots Initiative of Nigeria (PEPIN) has sent it’s heartfelt felicitation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the occasion of his 73rd birthday anniversary. In a press statement issued by the Media Directorate of PEPIN, the National President of PEPIN, Hon. Mrs. Felicia Awani Akande commended Mr. President for his exemplary leadership, resourcefulness, resoluteness and unflinching commitment to economic recovery and national development.

Hon. Akande extolled the uncommon wit and virtues of Mr. President in addressing emerging national challenges and ensuring Nigeria remains safe and egalitarian.

She hailed Mr. President for his interventions, polities and reforms in redirecting Nigeria to the right trajectory. “Nigeria couldn’t have had President Tinubu at a better time than now”; Hon Akande remarked as she thanked God for the life of Mr. Present and wished him a successful first tenure and another deserving second tenure, as it is often said; “one good turn deserves another.”

On behalf of PEPIN family, Hon Akande wish Mr. President well in soundness of health, knowledge and wisdom to piloting the affairs of our great nation Nigeria to an enviable height.

Happy birthday Mr. President, and Congratulations.

Bilabiri Leadership Crisis: Tubotu Exposes Criminal Activities Amidst False Allegations ……..Accuses Abaka Family of Criminal History, Challenges Legitimacy of Amb. Capt. Winston Ogoun JP

Bilabiri

Lucky Tubotu, an indigene of Bilabiri 1 community, has strongly refuted claims of having personal issues with Amb. Capt. Winston Ogoun JP, who asserts himself as the monarch of Bilabiri Mein Kingdom.

Tubotu, speaking on behalf of the Concerned Stakeholders for Truth and Progress in Bilabiri Mein Kingdom, clarified that his stance is based on facts, not personal grievances, and aims to prevent misinformation from spreading.

He questioned the legitimacy of Ogoun’s claims to the throne, stating that he has not been recognized by the Bayelsa State Government nor gazetted as a traditional ruler. “Ogoun’s claim of being presented with a staff is false,” he asserted.

Backing this claim, Tubotu cited an official statement from the Bayelsa State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, signed by the Commissioner, Chief Thompson Amule, confirming that Ogoun is not a recognized monarch. He called on the state government and relevant authorities to intervene and prevent further misrepresentation of Bilabiri’s traditional leadership.

Tubotu dismissed allegations that he has been banned from Bilabiri due to criminal activities, calling them baseless. “I have never been involved in any form of crime. My family is known for peace, truth, and progress,” he stated.

Instead, he turned the spotlight on the Abaka family, accusing them of long-standing involvement in organized crime. He challenged them to reveal the whereabouts of:

Meshack Abaka – Former youth president of Bilabiri 1 (2011), allegedly involved in a ship hijacking near Cameroon, where he and his gang were killed. He didn’t return from that mission neither did he complete his tenure.

Frankincense Abaka – Notorious sea pirate who led a gang that hijacked the Chinese vessel MV HAILUFANG II off the Ivory Coast in 2020. He and his crew were captured by the Nigerian Navy and are currently serving time in Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre, Lagos.

Tekenane Abaka – Self-proclaimed CDC Chairman of Bilabiri 1, allegedly arrested in 2013 after a vessel hijacking and kidnapping operation in the Forcados off shore .Some of his gang members were killed on that faithful day. He was arrested and spent 7 years in the Warri Correctional Centre. How he came out from prison is still questionable, whether he served a jail term, jumped bail, released or through a jail break?

Just recently, Tekenane Abaka swindled a public spirited individual, Amaisigabueze Global Resources who paid #1,350.000 to him for the WAEC enrollment of students in Bilabiri 1 and 2 communities. He forwarded 34 names of fictitious students to the donor and pocketed the money. Is that not a criminal offense ” obtaining by trick”.?

Ebimene Abaka aka Small Fire – Accused of the killing of Frank Seide in April 2021 over tenure extension issues in Bilabiri. He and his gang kidnapped three expatriates accompanying Hon. Berry Negerese, Govt and Chevron Nig Ltd that were going to commission a cottage hospital that was built by the Dodo Rural River Development Area in Amatu 2 community in Ekeremor Local Government Area.

That incident led to the death of one Paul Sebele, a son of Amatu. It was alleged that he raped the only female among the expatriates. What criminal activity can be more than this?

“The Abakas have terrorized Bilabiri for years, yet they have the audacity to point fingers at me. Instead of hiding in shame, they still try to manipulate community leadership,” Tubotu declared.

Tubotu also raised concerns about the sale of two heavy-duty generators donated to the community by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). He dismissed claims that they were sold due to technical issues and high maintenance costs.

“How much were they sold for? Where did the money go? Too many unanswered questions,” he challenged, demanding transparency and accountability.

Tubotu rejected accusations of mental instability, calling them a desperate ploy to silence his advocacy for justice. He labeled his critics as criminals who have engaged in piracy, theft, and violence, jeopardizing Bilabiri’s peace and development.

“The real threat to Bilabiri is not me but those who hijack leadership for personal gain. The same individuals accusing me are the architects of criminal operations that have destabilized our region,” he stated.

Tubotu reaffirmed his commitment to truth, good governance, and the progress of Bilabiri. He vowed to continue exposing corruption and holding wrongdoers accountable, despite efforts to tarnish his reputation.
