The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has concluded its primary election for the Anambra East and West Federal House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Hon. Chukwudi Onyejekwe of Aguleri emerging as the party’s flag bearer in a resounding victory.
The primary, conducted across the various wards of the constituency, witnessed widespread participation from party members in communities including Olumbanasa, Anam, Umueri, Aguleri, Nzam, Otuocha, and Nsugbe.
At the end of the exercise, Hon. Onyejekwe secured a commanding 7,828 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Hon. Kenechukwu Offor of Anam, who garnered 624 votes.
Announcing the results, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) representative from the Department of Election Party Monitoring, Mr. Kingsley Ajunwa, declared Onyejekwe as the duly elected ADC candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election in Anambra East and West Federal Constituency.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Hon. Onyejekwe expressed appreciation to party members and supporters for what he described as an overwhelming show of confidence in his leadership.
“This is a resounding victory and a strong endorsement of our campaign vision, ‘Handshake of Progress Across Anambra East and West.’ I sincerely thank the people for standing with me and believing in our collective dream,” he stated.
He described the outcome of the primary as a clear rejection of money politics and a mandate for purposeful representation and sustainable development.
“This victory goes beyond Awande. It is a victory for agricultural development, clean water supply, accessible roads, youth empowerment through business grants, and overall socio-economic advancement of our constituency,” Onyejekwe added.
The ADC candidate assured supporters that the momentum generated from the primary election would be sustained through the 2027 general election.
“Our ticket is secured, our mandate is legitimate, and our vision remains clear. We are taking this momentum into the general election as part of the broader movement for a New Nigeria that is possible,” he said.
On the party’s internal process, Onyejekwe maintained that the ADC primary reflected transparency, grassroots participation, and democratic credibility.
“We remain firmly aligned with the Supreme Court-recognized Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee. What we have conducted here is a model primary election built on transparency, zero impunity, and true grassroots democracy,” he noted.
Commenting on the large turnout recorded during the exercise, Onyejekwe said the participation level demonstrated the determination of the people to embrace change and chart a new political direction for the constituency.
“With the massive turnout witnessed today, it is evident that the people are ready for change. By the grace of God and with the continued support of our people, we are confident of victory in 2027,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, INEC disclosed that the total number of registered voters for the primary stood at 4,668, while 4,323 voters were accredited, representing a voter turnout of 92.6 percent.
